Honiara International Airport Guide
Honiara International Airport (formerly Henderson Field) sits 12 kilometres east of Honiara on the island of Guadalcanal. The site was built by Japanese forces during World War II, captured by US Marines in 1942, and converted to civilian use in 1969. It is the Solomon Islands' only international airport.
The airport has two terminals: a newer international terminal with air-conditioned departures, security, passport control, and a café, and a separate domestic terminal for inter-island flights. Solomon Airlines uses Honiara as its primary hub and operates to over 30 domestic and international destinations.
Solomon Islands Airport Corporation Limited (SIACL), a state-owned enterprise formed in October 2023, manages the airport. International carriers include Air Niugini, Fiji Airways, and Qantas, connecting Honiara to Brisbane, Nadi, and Port Moresby. The airport handled its busiest period on record during the 2023 Pacific Games.
