Nusatupe Airport guide

Nusatupe Airport serves Gizo, the capital of Western Province in the Solomon Islands. It sits on Nusatupe Island, about 2 km east of Ghizo Island, so every passenger finishes the trip to town by boat. Its ICAO code is AGGN.

The airstrip dates from the Second World War, when US Army Air Forces units levelled two small islands and joined them with the spoil. A New Zealand aid programme rebuilt and tar-sealed the runway in 2013, finishing a package that also covered the Munda runway and the Munda to Noro road. Sealing cut the weather delays that had affected flights on the old surface. In January 2023 the Coral Sea Foundation rated the strip the best airstrip in the South Pacific.

Solomon Airlines is the regular operator, linking Gizo with Honiara and with other Western Province and Choiseul airstrips. The terminal is small and basic, with a few check-in counters and a waiting area. A boat shuttle from the jetty carries passengers across to Gizo, and private boats can also load there.
