Marseille Provence Airport Guide
Marseille Provence Airport (IATA: MRS) is located 27 km northwest of Marseille city centre, on the territory of Marignane in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Opened in 1922, it is France's second-busiest regional airport and ranked 49th in Europe by passenger volume, handling 11.2 million passengers in 2024 — a record for the airport and 10% above pre-pandemic levels.
The airport operates two terminals. Terminal 1, substantially renovated and expanded in 2024 ahead of the Paris Olympics, handles full-service and international carriers including Air France, British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Turkish Airlines, and Vueling. Terminal 2 (formerly MP2, opened 2006) is dedicated to low-cost operations, with Ryanair and easyJet as the primary operators. Ryanair accounts for over a third of total seat capacity, making it the airport's largest airline.
The airport sits 28 km from Aix-en-Provence and serves a catchment area extending from Avignon in the west to Toulon in the east. It connects to the regional rail network via Vitrolles Marseille Provence Airport station on the TER service. Two runways support operations without slot constraints, and the airport operates flights to over 100 destinations.
