Tenerife Sur Airport Guide
Tenerife South Airport, also known as Reina Sofía Airport, sits in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona in the south of Tenerife. It was inaugurated on 6 November 1978 by Queen Sofía of Spain and handled 13.7 million passengers in 2024, making it the second busiest airport in the Canary Islands after Gran Canaria.
The airport operates a single three-storey terminal with 40 boarding gates, ten of them equipped with jetbridges. Its single runway, 07/25, measures 3,200 metres. Ryanair is the main base carrier, alongside easyJet, British Airways, TUI Airways and more than 50 other airlines serving European and North African destinations. Traffic is predominantly international, with the United Kingdom and Germany accounting for more than half of it.
TFS is the main gateway to the resort areas of Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos on the southwest coast of Tenerife, roughly 17 to 20 km from the airport. The airport is managed by Aena, the Spanish public airport authority, and is open 24 hours a day, although the terminal building closes to the public between 11:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. when there are no flights.
