Tenerife South Airport, also known as Reina Sofía Airport, sits in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona in the south of Tenerife, 68 km from the island capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It opened in November 1978 and handled 13.7 million passengers in 2024, making it the second busiest airport in the Canary Islands after Gran Canaria.
The airport operates a single three-storey terminal with 40 boarding gates, ten equipped with jetbridges. Its single runway measures 3,200 metres. Ryanair is the largest carrier by departures, followed by Jet2, easyJet, TUI, and British Airways. Over 40 airlines operate scheduled and charter services, with the majority of traffic coming from the United Kingdom and Northern Europe.
TFS is the main gateway to the popular resort areas of Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos, both around 17–18 km to the northwest. The airport is managed by Aena, the Spanish public airport authority, and underwent a terminal expansion in 2022 raising capacity to 16 million passengers annually.
