Gran Canaria Airport sits on the Bay of Gando on the island's east coast, 18 km south of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is Spain's sixth busiest airport by passenger volume, handling 15.2 million passengers in 2024 with 140,464 aircraft movements. Operated by AENA, the airport opened for commercial operations in 1930 following a royal order converting military air force installations on the bay into a civilian airfield.

The airport has a single terminal divided into functional zones: Zone A for inter-island flights, Zone B for domestic Spanish mainland services, Zone C for Schengen EU flights, and Zone D for non-Schengen international routes. A major renovation completed in 2015 doubled the terminal area, expanding check-in counters from 96 to 132 and baggage belts from 16 to 24, with 40 gates in total. The airport serves as a base for Binter Canarias and Canaryfly, which operate inter-island routes, alongside Ryanair, Vueling, Norwegian, and easyJet for European connections.

Gran Canaria Airport is a key gateway for West Africa routes to Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, and Cape Verde, as well as Atlantic island connections to Madeira and the Azores. Two parallel runways of 3,100 m each handle the traffic mix of charter, low-cost, and scheduled services year-round.
