Yandina Airport guide

Yandina Airport (IATA: XYA, ICAO: AGGY) is an airstrip on Mbanika Island in the Russell Islands, part of Central Province in the Solomon Islands. It sits beside the island's main settlement, Yandina, and serves the Russell Islands group.

The strip began as a wartime field. US Navy construction battalions started it in February 1943 as a fighter airfield, and a crushed-coral runway of about 3,100 feet was usable within weeks. It was later lengthened for medium bombers, and the site is also recorded as Renard Field.

Today the strip handles light domestic traffic. Solomon Airlines, which trades as Fly Solomons, is reported to serve the Russell Islands area with weekly flights, though some sources list it only as a charter destination. Published sources give no operator, passenger or movement counts, and schedules change, so confirm flights with the airline before you travel.
