Val de Cans/Júlio Cezar Ribeiro International Airport sits 12 km north of Belém's historic city center in the Val de Cans neighborhood. The airport shares its airfield with the Belém Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force. Named in part after Júlio Cezar Ribeiro de Souza, a 19th-century balloon researcher, on April 13, 2010.

The terminal was rebuilt in 1999 and expanded in 2001, adding six jetways to the existing structure. The facility operates 24 hours a day and handles both domestic and international flights. Domestic connections cover major Brazilian cities, while international routes serve destinations in Europe, North America, and neighboring South American countries.

The airport recorded 3.3 million passengers in 2024, a figure that reached over 4 million when the 2025 total was counted — a record for the airport.
