Perth International Airport Guide
Perth Airport is Western Australia's main gateway and the fourth busiest airport in Australia by passenger numbers. It sits in Perth's eastern suburbs, within the boundaries of the cities of Belmont, Kalamunda and Swan. Civil flights by Qantas Empire Airways and Australian National Airways began from the former Guildford Aerodrome in 1944, and the site was renamed Perth Airport in March 1953.
The airport handled a record 16.9 million passengers in calendar year 2024, up from 15.3 million in 2023, with international passenger numbers growing 23 percent. It is also the hub for the long-haul fly-in fly-out workforce serving Western Australia's mining and resources sector, which keeps regional traffic high. The runway system is a 3,444 metre main runway and a 2,163 metre crossing runway.
The passenger terminals sit in two separate precincts. Terminals 1 and 2 stand together next to the Airport Central railway station, which links to the city by the Airport line. Terminals 3 and 4 are in a separate precinct and used by Qantas. A free shuttle bus links the two precincts. A 2024 agreement commits Qantas and Jetstar to move to a new terminal in the Airport Central precinct by 2031.
