Meekatharra Airport guide

Updated 2026-10-16

Meekatharra Airport is a regional aerodrome in the Murchison region of Western Australia, about 5 km east of the town. It started as a gravel airfield used in the 1930s, in the early days of flying into the North West and Pilbara. In 1943 the RAAF built Government Aerodrome No. 872 on the site as part of the Commonwealth's wartime defence program. The Department of Civil Aviation took it over after the war and added a terminal in 1958. The Shire of Meekatharra has run the airport since 1993.
