Newman Airport guide

Newman Airport serves the iron ore mining town of Newman in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It lies about 10 km southeast of the town, and the Shire of East Pilbara owns and operates it.

Traffic is driven by the mining industry. The airport recorded 430,415 passengers in the 2024/25 financial year, which ranked it 23rd among Australian airports. Regular public transport flights run between Newman and Perth, with the Shire counting close to 50 scheduled flights a week. Many of the passengers are resource-sector workers, and charter and contract operators fly alongside the scheduled airlines. Smaller aircraft also link Newman with Port Hedland and other Pilbara communities.

The airport has one asphalt runway, 05/23, which is 2,072 m long. It was strengthened to take larger jets, including the Boeing 737. The Shire has added aircraft and car parking and extended the departures lounge to cope with growth, and it has planned a terminal expansion and wider airport redevelopment. The terminal opens only around flight times. The airport administration office is staffed on weekdays during normal Shire hours, and airside access needs an ASIC or a Visitor Identification Card.
