Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport sits in Hamilton County, about 8 km east of downtown Chattanooga. It is also known as Lovell Field, the name it took when the present airport opened in 1930. During World War II the field served as a military training facility. Ownership passed from the City of Chattanooga to the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority in July 1985.
