Frederick W. Smith International Airport (MEM), known until August 2026 as Memphis International Airport, sits 11 km southeast of downtown Memphis in Shelby County, Tennessee. It has four runways and a single terminal with a Y-shaped concourse of 23 gates. The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority operates it, and it served 4,878,919 passengers in 2024, a record 4.9 million of them origin-and-destination travelers. Airlines flying from the airport include Delta, American, Southwest, United, Allegiant, Frontier and Breeze Airways.
MEM is the home of the FedEx World Hub. The airport handled 8.28 billion pounds of cargo in 2023, making it the busiest cargo airport in North America and the second busiest in the world. Overnight freight operations account for much of the aircraft movement at the airport.
A terminal modernization program called MEM on the Move began in 2024. It includes replacement of the outer drive and modernization of the ticketing and baggage areas. Concourse B was renovated and reopened in February 2022, and Concourse A is being demolished. Most airlines use Concourse B, while United operates from Concourse C.
