Kazan International Airport serves Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan and a city of roughly 1.3 million people on the Volga River, sitting southeast of the city near the village of Stolbische. It opened in 1979, gained international status in 1986, and was renamed for the Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay in 2018. A single runway, certified for Category II instrument approaches, carries a growing volume of traffic tied to Tatarstan's oil, petrochemical and aerospace industries.

A major terminal expansion opened in 2012 and 2013 ahead of Kazan's hosting of the 2013 Summer Universiade, replacing the airport's Soviet-era building. Passenger numbers have climbed steadily since, reaching 5.2 million in 2023 alongside roughly 21,700 aircraft movements. Svyazinvestneftehim, a Tatarstan state investment holding, owns the operating company.

Aeroflot, S7 Airlines and Ural Airlines anchor the domestic network alongside regional carrier UVT Aero, which is based at the airport, while Turkish Airlines, Flydubai and Etihad Airways connect Kazan to Istanbul, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Charter operator Nordwind Airlines adds seasonal leisure routes to Turkey and Egypt.
