Zyryanka Airport guide

Zyryanka Airport serves the settlement of Zyryanka, the administrative centre of the Verkhnekolymsky District in the Sakha Republic of Russia. It carries the ICAO code UESU and sits at an elevation of 43 metres on the left bank of the Kolyma River.

Zyryanka has no year-round road connection, so the airport is the main link to the rest of the country. Construction began in the autumn of 1941 as a backup airfield on the Alsib ferry route that carried US-built aircraft to the Soviet front. The airport was formally established on 1 January 1943, and regular passenger flights from Yakutsk began in 1953.

The runway lies on a natural spit beside the river within the settlement limits. Spring floods can inundate it, and a separate backup airfield, Zyryanka West, lies about 9 km away. The airport has one runway, 16/34, and is operated by Aeroports of the North. Polar Airlines flies the route to Yakutsk. The airport handled 8,073 passengers in 2017, down from 9,442 in 2015.
