Domodedovo International Airport Guide

Domodedovo sits south-southeast of central Moscow, linked to the city by an Aeroexpress rail service to Paveletsky station. In 2019, a national naming poll and a presidential decree added the honorific "Mikhail Lomonosov" to the airport's official title, after the 18th-century scientist and polymath. Domodedovo was once Russia's busiest airport, peaking at 30.6 million passengers in 2017, before slipping to fourth-busiest in the country by 2024, behind Sheremetyevo, Pulkovo and Vnukovo.

Traffic fell further after 2022, when Western sanctions grounded much of the Airbus and Boeing fleet flown by resident carriers and closed off many international routes. The Russian government nationalized the airport in 2025 following a dispute over its ownership structure, then sold it at auction in early 2026 to Perspektiva, a subsidiary of rival Sheremetyevo Airport. Vnukovo Airport later took a stake in the same holding company, bringing all three of Moscow's major airports under related ownership.

S7 Airlines and Ural Airlines carry most of the traffic that remains, alongside a smaller roster of Middle Eastern and Asian carriers still serving Moscow. A long-planned third runway remains under construction alongside the existing pair.
