Nizhneangarsk International Airport guide

Nizhneangarsk Airport sits on the northern tip of Lake Baikal in Buryatia, about 4 km northeast of the settlement of Nizhneangarsk. It also serves the Severobaikalsk district, whose main town lies roughly 26 km to the southwest. The ICAO code is UIUN.

The airport has a single concrete runway, 04/22, measuring 1,653 by 32 metres. It is a class 3 aerodrome rated for aircraft up to 25 tonnes, which suits the turboprop Antonov An-24 aircraft that have flown the regional routes. Scheduled service links the Baikal region with Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk, and the schedule has changed between operators over the years.

Passenger traffic is small. The airport recorded 16,379 passengers in 2017, up from 7,716 in 2016. On 27 June 2019 an Angara Airlines An-24 crashed on landing here, killing two crew members and injuring 22 passengers.
