Benin Airport guide

Benin Airport serves Benin City, the capital of Edo State in southern Nigeria. It sits inside the urban area, in the Ogba-Oko community, and the single runway runs through the middle of the city. The airport has an elevation of 79 metres and carries the ICAO code DNBE.

The airfield was built in 1956 by the former Public Works Department. It was upgraded between 1975 and 1978 and then handed over to the Nigerian Airports Authority. Today it is owned and run by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, which has also remodelled the terminal building as part of its national airport remodelling programme.

Traffic is domestic. Flights link Benin City with Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt on a small number of carriers. Runway 05/23 is asphalt and about 2,400 metres long, long enough for Boeing 737 and Embraer regional jets. A VOR-DME beacon lies about 3.1 nautical miles to the southwest and a non-directional beacon stands on the field. With one runway, any closure stops all flights, so check with your airline before you travel.
