Misrata International Airport guide

Misrata International Airport (ICAO HLMS) serves the port city of Misrata on Libya's Mediterranean coast. Its single asphalt runway, 15/33, is 3,400 m long.

The site began as a small landing field in Italian Libya in 1939. During the 2011 uprising it was a front-line location, and on 15 December 2011 Turkish Airlines flew the first regularly scheduled international service by a non-Libyan airline after the conflict. In July 2014 fighting at Tripoli International Airport, on which Misrata depends for operations, closed Misrata to flights on 14 July; they resumed the night of 15 July.

A fire destroyed the passenger terminal on 3 August 2020. Libya's Airports Authority and the Misrata municipality then agreed that the municipality would arrange, with private companies, a replacement departure hall built to Authority-approved designs, in return for handling its periodic maintenance and keeping rental income from shops and services. The Libyan Air Force also uses the airfield for training.

Scheduled carriers include Libyan Airlines, Afriqiyah Airways, Berniq Airways, EgyptAir, Royal Jordanian and Turkish Airlines, with cargo flights by EgyptAir Cargo and MNG Airlines.
