Kotoka International Airport Guide
Accra International Airport sits 8.5 km north of Accra city centre, making it one of West Africa's most centrally positioned major airports. It serves as Ghana's primary international gateway, handling over 3.6 million passengers in 2025. The airport operates on a single runway (03/21) stretching 3,403 metres.
Terminal 3, which opened in September 2018, handles all regional and international traffic and has capacity to process 1,250 passengers per hour. It features six boarding bridges, three business lounges, and a commercial retail area. Terminal 2 serves domestic routes and is undergoing expansion to relieve congestion during peak periods.
The airport is operated by Ghana Airports Company Limited and won Airports Council International's Best Airport in Africa (2-5 million passengers) award in 2019, 2020, and 2021. It was officially renamed from Kotoka International Airport back to Accra International Airport in February 2026.
