Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport Guide
Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport sits 12 km west of Bordeaux city centre in the commune of Mérignac. It is France's eighth busiest airport, handling 6.6 million passengers in 2024 across three terminals. The airport has two intersecting runways and connects 27 countries through 27 airlines operating 98 direct destinations.
The site has been used for aviation since 1912 when the French state acquired the land, and the first commercial flights departed in 1920. A dedicated low-cost terminal, billi, opened in 2010 and expanded in 2015 to meet growing budget airline demand. In April 2023, Bordeaux tramway Line F began linking the airport directly to the city centre, providing a rail alternative to taxis and buses.
The airport is owned by a public-private consortium — SA ADBM — under a 30-year concession awarded in 2007. easyJet is the largest airline by weekly departures, and Volotea is the second-largest operator. The departure of Ryanair's base in November 2024, following a fee dispute, reduced annual seat capacity by approximately 1.7 million.
