Changde Taohuayuan Airport guide

Changde Taohuayuan Airport serves Changde in northern Hunan province. It lies in Doumuhu Town, about 12 km southwest of the city centre, and was originally named Changde Doumuhu Airport. The name Taohuayuan refers to the Peach Blossom Spring, a valley from classical Chinese literature.

Construction began in 1958, and passenger and cargo flights to Changsha started in 1964 on Y-5 aircraft. Expansions followed in 1986, 1991 and 1993-1996, which raised the field to 4C standard. A further project between 2012 and 2015 lifted it to 4D standard. The airport covers about 153 hectares and has thirteen aircraft stands, four for Class D aircraft and nine for Class C.

A single runway, 02/20, is about 2,600 m long. The new terminal opened on 22 December 2015 after a build costing nearly 650 million yuan. The airport handled 782,822 passengers and 32,862 aircraft movements in 2025. It passed one million passengers in 2019, and it received temporary approval for international flights that year, with a route to Bangkok starting on 11 December 2019. It serves as an alternate for Changsha Huanghua and Zhangjiajie Hehua airports.
