Orlando de Carvalho Airport Guide
Orlando de Carvalho Airport serves Umuarama, a city in northwestern Paraná state, Brazil. It sits near km 309 of the PR-323 highway, about 5 km from the city centre, at 473 metres above sea level. The ICAO code is SSUM. Umuarama is 555 km from Curitiba by road, which is the main reason the airport matters for regional travel.
The airport has one asphalt runway, 04/22, about 1,430 metres long. The municipality ran it for years. In 2020 the Paraná state government reported an investment of 18 million reais to prepare it for commercial flights, covering terminal renovation and expansion, runway resurfacing, apron modernisation, X-ray equipment, a baggage belt, a camera circuit and a weather station. Infracea won the concession to operate the airport on 25 January 2022.
Scheduled service has been intermittent. Sol Linhas Aéreas flew to Curitiba and Toledo for a short period in 2011, and the airport handled 4,691 passengers and 3,011 aircraft operations that year. Azul Conecta, a regional subsidiary of Azul, has flown Cessna Caravan turboprops to Curitiba since 2022. Timetables change, so check with the airline before travelling.
