Fernando de Noronha Airport guide

Governador Carlos Wilson Airport is the only airport on the island of Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago off the northeast coast of Brazil. Recife is 545 km away and Natal is 360 km away, so almost every visitor arrives by air.

The first runway was built in 1934 and was extended in 1942 and again in 1975, which allowed aircraft up to the Boeing 737 class. It is a single asphalt strip, 12/30, 1,845 m long, at 56 m elevation. The airport became a base for search and rescue after Air France Flight 447 disappeared in June 2009.

Dix Empreendimentos operates the airport. The previous passenger terminal opened in March 1999. In October 2022 Brazil's civil aviation agency, ANAC, suspended jet operations because of the runway's condition, and turboprops kept flying. ANAC provisionally lifted the restriction in March 2025 after initial runway work. The first phase of a new passenger terminal opened on 15 May 2026, growing the building from 1,050 m² to 3,000 m² at a cost of R$ 63 million. Azul, Gol and LATAM operate scheduled flights to the island.
