Várzea Grande–Marechal Rondon International Airport Guide
The airport sits in the municipality of Várzea Grande, across the Cuiabá River from the state capital, and serves the Cuiabá metropolitan area in the centre of Mato Grosso. It is the main air gateway to the state and a connecting point for the Pantanal and the northern Amazon region.
The airport opened on 14 June 1956 and is named after Marshal Cândido Rondon. Infraero ran it for several decades. A 30-year concession passed it to the Centro-Oeste Airports group in 2019, which also operates the airports at Sinop, Rondonópolis and Alta Floresta. The operator rebuilt and expanded the passenger terminal, which first opened in a new form in 2006, and the airport received authorisation for international operations from ANAC.
The single asphalt runway, 17/35, measures 2,300 m by 45 m. Azul, Gol and LATAM operate most scheduled flights, mainly to São Paulo, Brasília and other Brazilian hubs. The terminal has two floors, a food court, shops, currency exchange and car rental desks, and the airport has a separate cargo terminal.
