Deputado Luiz Eduardo Magalhães International Airport Guide
Salvador Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport (IATA: SSA, ICAO: SBSV) serves the capital of Bahia in northeastern Brazil. It sits north of the city, on the Avenida Luís Viana Filho (Avenida Paralela) corridor. The airfield opened in 1925 as Santo Amaro do Ipitanga Airport and took its current name in 1998, in honour of the Bahian politician Luís Eduardo Magalhães.
Vinci Airports has run the airport under a 30-year concession since 2017, after more than four decades under Infraero. Gol uses Salvador as a hub. Azul and LATAM Brasil fly a dense domestic network, while Air France, TAP Air Portugal, Air Europa, Copa Airlines and Aerolíneas Argentinas add international links to Europe, Panama and Buenos Aires.
The airport shares its airfield with the Salvador Air Force Base. It has two asphalt runways, a main 3,003-metre strip and a shorter 1,518-metre crossing runway. The single terminal has boarding bridges linking it directly to aircraft. The Salvador Metro Aeroporto station, opened in 2018, links the terminal to the city by rail.
