Puerto Deseado Airport guide

Puerto Deseado Airport serves Puerto Deseado, a port town in Santa Cruz Province, in Argentine Patagonia. Its ICAO code is SAWD. The airfield sits on the northern edge of town, about 2 km inland from the Deseado River estuary, so the drive to the centre is short. Its elevation is 81 m above sea level.

The airport has one asphalt runway, designated 06/24, which is 1,655 m long. That length suits regional and turboprop aircraft rather than large jets. The airport is public, and the Argentine airport system lists it as a small regional field.

Commercial service here is limited. Wikipedia notes that no scheduled services operated as of February 2012, and no current timetable could be confirmed from public sources. Historic timetables show that the state airline LADE once linked Puerto Deseado with San Julian and other Santa Cruz towns on Fokker 27 aircraft in the 1980s. Travellers should check with the airline or the municipality before planning a trip that depends on a flight, and should have a road alternative ready.

The town is the base for visits to the Deseado estuary and its wildlife. The nearest larger airports with regular flights are in Comodoro Rivadavia and Rio Gallegos, both several hours away by road.
