J F Mitchell Airport guide

J F Mitchell Airport is the air gateway to Bequia, the largest of the Grenadines in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It sits at the southern end of the island near the village of Paget Farm, on land reclaimed from the sea. Its ICAO code is TVSB.

The airport opened on 15 May 1992 and is named after James Mitchell, who served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 2000. It has a single asphalt runway, 12/30, about 1,100 m long and 30 m wide. The strip suits regional turboprops such as the Dash 8 and ATR 42/72, along with business jets and light aircraft. The apron holds two ATR-sized aircraft or five light aircraft at a time.

A single-storey terminal holds check-in desks, a departure lounge, baggage handling and customs and immigration. The control tower is part of the same building. Scheduled and charter services run on short hops to other islands in the Grenadines and to the main island of Saint Vincent, with SVG Air the local carrier. Timetables change often, so check with the airline before travelling. Most visitors reach Bequia by ferry from Saint Vincent, which makes the airport a quicker option for those short on time.
