Commercial service began in 1949 with Capital Airlines DC-3s. Since then the route has passed through Lake Central, Allegheny, Colgan, Mesa, RegionsAir, Silver Airways and Southern Airways Express. Since December 2024, United Express flights operated by SkyWest have run on 50-seat CRJ200 jets to Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles. The Essential Air Service program subsidizes them. FAA data shows 7,887 passengers boarded in 2024.
The single runway, 18/36, is 5,199 feet long and 150 feet wide, with an instrument landing system. The airport has requested a 1,001-foot extension so larger aircraft can use it. General aviation made up 56 percent of the 59,641 operations in 2022, air taxi 41 percent and military 3 percent. Medical flight companies operate from the field.
