Mason City Municipal Airport Guide
Mason City Municipal Airport lies about six miles west of downtown Mason City, in Cerro Gordo County in north-central Iowa. Its mailing address is in Clear Lake, which sits on the other side of the field from Mason City. The first aircraft landed in March 1945 and the field was dedicated in June 1946.
SkyWest Airlines, flying as United Express, provides the scheduled service, with daily flights to Chicago O'Hare. SkyWest began the route in March 2021. About 17,470 passengers flew on it in 2025, and the airport is working toward 10,000 annual enplanements, the level that qualifies it as an FAA Primary Airport.
The airport has two asphalt runways. Runway 18/36 is 6,501 feet long and runway 12/30 is 5,502 feet. The airfield recorded 33,600 aircraft operations in the year ending June 2020, and 51 aircraft were based here in 2022. A 23,000-square-foot terminal opened on July 31, 2024, replacing a building from 1966. It offers free parking, free Wi-Fi and a short security line.
