Mobile Regional Airport is the main commercial airport for Mobile and the Alabama Gulf Coast. It sits about 13 miles west of downtown Mobile. The Mobile Airport Authority owns and operates it. The authority is self-funded and receives no local tax dollars.

The field began as Bates Field and served the Army Air Forces for pilot and glider training and as a transport airfield during World War II. The U.S. Coast Guard acquired the facility in 1966, and it now hosts the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center. The M.C. Farmer Terminal was completed in 1985 and has six gates with jet bridges.

American Eagle, Delta Connection and United Express provide scheduled service, linking Mobile to hubs at Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Washington Dulles. The airport counted 594,410 passengers and 65,408 aircraft operations in 2018. Two runways serve the field: runway 15/33 is 8,502 feet long and runway 18/36 is 4,376 feet long.
