Huntsville International Airport is the main commercial airport for north Alabama. It sits about ten miles southwest of downtown Huntsville, in Madison County. The Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority runs it as part of the Port of Huntsville, alongside the International Intermodal Center and the Jetplex Industrial Park. The airport handled about 1.7 million passengers in 2025, up 5.3 percent on 2024.

The field opened in October 1967 as the Huntsville Jetport, and a ribbon-cutting followed on September 15, 1968. It has two parallel asphalt runways. Runway 18R/36L is 12,600 feet long and 18L/36R is 10,001 feet, both 150 feet wide. The long runway suits heavy freighters, and cargo carriers including FedEx Express, UPS, Atlas Air, Cargolux, Qatar Airways Cargo and LATAM Cargo serve the airport.

Passenger service comes from Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Breeze Airways, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, some of it flown by regional affiliates. The terminal has 12 gates, shops, restaurants and aviation and space-themed murals. A Four Points by Sheraton hotel sits above the ticketing area and lobby. In 2015 the airport fitted glass passenger boarding bridges, the first all-glass jet bridges in the Southeast.
