Petrozavodsk Airport guide

Petrozavodsk Airport sits near the village of Besovets, about 12 km northwest of Petrozavodsk, the capital of the Republic of Karelia. It is also known as Besovets and, from its Soviet-era designation, Petrozavodsk-2.

The site began as a military airfield in August 1939 and became a civil airport in 1964. International flights began in 1990. The airport is still a joint-use facility shared with the Russian Air Force, which bases fighter aircraft there.

The main runway, 01/19, is a 2,500 m by 48 m concrete strip, with reconstruction of its surface completed in November 2019. A second 01/19 runway, 1,700 m by 40 m, has a grass surface. A passenger terminal of about 3,700 square metres opened on 20 August 2020, built by the Military Construction Complex of the Russian Ministry of Defence.

The airport is operated by Aeroport Petrozavodsk, a budget institution of the Republic of Karelia. Scheduled services in 2025 are flown by Azimut to Moscow Vnukovo, by Severstal to Moscow and Yekaterinburg with seasonal flights to cities such as Kaliningrad and Sochi, and by UVT Aero on seasonal routes to Kazan, Murmansk, Samara and Perm. Helicopters serve Kizhi and Sennaya Guba.
