Solovki Airport Guide
Solovki Airport serves the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea, part of Arkhangelsk Oblast in northwestern Russia. It sits next to Solovetsky settlement, about 1 km from the Solovetsky museum-reserve, whose monastery ensemble is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The airfield dates from before the Second World War and served as a military airfield from 1941 to 1945. It has one runway, 10/28, 1,500 metres long and 36 metres wide. Reconstruction of the runway was completed in 2004, and a larger federally funded rebuild of the airport complex, costing 2.6 billion roubles, has been under way since 2019. The old passenger building is a small wooden structure that handles about 50 passengers an hour.
Flights link the islands with Arkhangelsk, mainly on small turboprops such as the 17-seat L-410 from Vaskovo airport and the An-24 from Talagi. Seasonal services have also run to Petrozavodsk and Saint Petersburg. Traffic is highest in summer, and strong wind or low cloud closes the airport. Passenger numbers fell from 13,600 in 2015 to 8,500 in 2018.
