Silvio Pettirossi International Airport Guide
Silvio Pettirossi International Airport is located in Luque, approximately 10 kilometres from downtown Asunción, and is the primary international gateway for Paraguay. Named after Paraguayan aviator Silvio Pettirossi (1887–1916), the airport opened in 1938 and operates its current terminal building since March 1980. It shares facilities with the Paraguayan Air Force's Ñu-Guazú Base.
The airport handled 1,327,342 passengers in 2025 — a historic record representing 13.7% growth year-on-year — with 48,362 aircraft movements. LATAM Paraguay and Paranair operate as primary hubs, with Copa Airlines, Avianca, Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Europa, Gol, JetSMART, Boliviana de Aviación, and Emirates also serving the airport. Air Europa's Madrid service, launched in 2015, restored direct Europe connections after a 21-year gap.
A planned expansion includes a second passenger terminal estimated at USD 200 million, aimed at raising capacity to six million passengers annually by 2028. The single terminal contains two international concourses — south (gates 1–4) and north (gates 5–6) — with the north concourse renovated in May 2023.
