Cozumel International Airport sits on the island of Cozumel, off Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, about 3 kilometres north of San Miguel de Cozumel, the island's main town. From 1978 to 2002 the airport served as the headquarters and hub for AeroCozumel, a regional carrier and Mexicana subsidiary.

The single-level terminal was renovated and expanded in 2003 and now covers 9,514 square metres with 37 check-in counters and eight boarding gates. Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) holds the concession to operate the airport, one of nine it runs in southeastern Mexico alongside Cancún.

The airport also houses Air Force Base No. 4, home to Squadron 201 of the Mexican Air Force, which flies from a separate runway reserved for military use, not the one used by commercial traffic. Most arrivals come for Cozumel's reef diving and beach resorts; travellers heading to mainland Riviera Maya destinations such as Playa del Carmen connect by passenger ferry from San Miguel de Cozumel rather than by road.
