Seoul Gimpo International Airport guide
Updated 2026-10-07Gimpo Airport sits in Gangseo-gu, on the western edge of Seoul, on a site first built as a military airfield in 1939 under Japanese rule. A 1958 presidential decree redesignated it as Seoul's international airport, and it served as South Korea's principal gateway until Incheon International Airport opened in 2001. Gimpo now handles domestic routes and short-haul international flights to Japan, China and Taiwan.
