Queen Alia International Airport Guide
Queen Alia International Airport sits 30 kilometres south of central Amman in the desert plateau of Zizya, at an elevation of 730 metres. Opened in 1983, it replaced Amman Civil Airport as Jordan's primary international gateway. The airport is operated by Airport International Group (AIG) under a 25-year Build-Operate-Transfer concession awarded by the Government of Jordan in 2007.
The current terminal, designed by Foster + Partners and opened in March 2013, features 127 concrete domes inspired by traditional Bedouin tent architecture. It handles all international and domestic traffic in a single integrated facility. In 2024, the airport recorded 8.8 million passengers and 73,370 aircraft movements across its two parallel runways.
Royal Jordanian, the national carrier, operates the most extensive network from AMM with 65 destinations across four continents. Ryanair provides the largest low-cost European network, while Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Saudia offer major Gulf and international connections. The airport has received ACI World's Best Airport award in the Middle East category for multiple consecutive years.
