Pondicherry Airport guide

Pondicherry Airport sits in Lawspet, on the northern side of Puducherry, the Union Territory on India's southeast coast. The Airports Authority of India owns and runs it. The airport is also listed as Puducherry Airport, with ICAO code VOPC.

The airport was built in 1989. Vayudoot flew to Madras, Neyveli and Bangalore until 1991, then the airport sat unused for about two decades. A new terminal building opened in January 2013, and scheduled flights restarted in August 2017 under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme.

The single asphalt runway, 07/25, is 1,500 m long and 30 m wide. That length suits small turboprop and narrow-body jets on regional routes. Traffic grew sharply in the 2025-26 financial year, with 1,497 aircraft movements and no cargo. IndiGo operates the current routes to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Rajahmundry. The terminal handles about 300 passengers in a peak hour. Land is being acquired to extend the runway for larger aircraft.
