Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport sits in the Santacruz and Sahar areas of Mumbai, roughly 26 kilometres north of the city centre. It is India's second-busiest airport by passenger volume and holds the distinction of being the world's busiest airport operating with a single runway at a time — its two runways are arranged in an intersecting configuration that allows only one to be active simultaneously. The airport handled 54.8 million passengers in 2024, a record high, and recorded 346,617 aircraft movements that year.

The airport is operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings (74%) and Airports Authority of India (26%). Terminal 2, which opened in 2014, consolidates all international flights and most major domestic carriers under one roof. Terminal 1 handles low-cost domestic carriers. Major international airlines serving the airport include Emirates, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Etihad Airways, KLM, and Singapore Airlines.
