Updated 2026-10-08

Frans Kaisiepo Airport serves Biak, the main town on Biak Island in Papua's Cenderawasih Bay. It sits at Mokmer, about 3 km from the town centre. Japanese forces built the airfield as Mokmer Airfield during World War II, and Allied troops captured it in June 1944 during the Battle of Biak. The Dutch developed it for passenger traffic from 1952, and it was renamed in 1984 after Frans Kaisiepo, a Papuan nationalist and governor of Irian Jaya.
