Ranai Airport guide

Ranai-Natuna Airport sits on Great Natuna Island, the largest island of the Natuna archipelago in the South China Sea. It serves Ranai, the capital of Natuna Regency, and is the main air link between the islands and the Indonesian mainland. The airport was formerly named Raden Sadjad Airport.

The airport is owned by the Government of Indonesia and run by the Ministry of Transportation together with the Indonesian Air Force, which uses it as a Type B airbase. Its single asphalt runway, 18/36, measures 2,560 m by 32 m. Because of the South China Sea dispute, the government has planned to lengthen it to 3,000 m and widen it to 45 m so large military aircraft can land, along with hangars and an instrument landing system.

Passenger flights are short-haul turboprop and narrow-body services. Wings Air and NAM Air fly to Batam, with about 14 weekly flights, and Susi Air connects to Letung. A new terminal of roughly 3,870 square metres, opened by President Joko Widodo on 6 October 2016, replaced a 243 square metre building and handles about 385 passengers a day. A 5,020 square metre car park beside it holds about 154 cars and 32 motorcycles.
