Notohadinegoro Airport Guide
Notohadinegoro Airport (ICAO: WARE) is a small domestic airport in Ajung District, Jember Regency, East Java, about 8 km from Jember town centre. It is named after Raden Noto Hadinegoro, Jember's first regent, who served from 1929 to 1942. Construction began in 2003, funded by the Jember Regency Government with an allocation of Rp30 billion. The airport opened on 9 January 2005 with a 1,200 metre runway and is operated by the Jember Regency Government.
The single asphalt runway, designated 02/20, now measures about 1,645 metres by 30 metres, which suits turboprops such as the ATR 72. Passenger traffic is very light: 552 passengers and 106 aircraft movements were recorded in 2024, down from a peak of 77,626 passengers in 2018.
Scheduled flying has started and stopped several times. Services to Surabaya, Denpasar and Sumenep have been discontinued, including Wings Air's Denpasar route in May 2026. FlyJaya began flights to Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma on 23 September 2025, paused them on 14 October 2025, and was scheduled to resume them on 11 November 2025. Travellers should check the current schedule with the airline before booking.
The airport sits on a site of about 120 hectares in Wirowongso Village that was formerly held by the state plantation company PTPN XII, and the land status has long been an obstacle to its development.
