Charles de Gaulle International Airport Guide
Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport opened on 8 March 1974, replacing older Paris facilities that could no longer handle rising air traffic. It is named after Charles de Gaulle, the World War II general and later French president, whose initials also form its IATA code. Groupe ADP, the French aviation group also known as Aéroports de Paris, owns and operates the airport.
The airport handled 70,290,260 passengers and 466,543 aircraft movements in 2024, making it the busiest airport in France. Four active runways handle this traffic: two roughly 4,100 metres long on the outer sides of the airfield and two roughly 2,700 metres long on the inner sides.
Charles de Gaulle is the principal hub for Air France and its SkyTeam partners. Its site spans three départements — Val-d'Oise, Seine-et-Marne, and Seine-Saint-Denis — across six communes, including Roissy-en-France, from which the airport takes its common nickname, Roissy.
