Ibiza Airport Guide
Ibiza Airport is located 7 km southwest of Ibiza city, on the island of Ibiza in Spain's Balearic Islands. It also serves the neighboring island of Formentera. The airport has one runway and a single mixed-use terminal handling both domestic and international passengers.
The airport first opened in 1949 but closed within two years. Commercial services resumed in 1958, and international traffic began in 1966. A new terminal opened in 1973, and continued expansion followed across subsequent decades to cope with growing tourist demand. In 2024, the airport handled over 9 million passengers — a historic record — with roughly 85% of traffic concentrated between May and October.
Ibiza is one of the top summer leisure destinations in Europe, and the airport's passenger mix reflects this: low-cost carriers and charter operators dominate, serving leisure routes across the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia. Vueling, Ryanair, and easyJet are among the largest operators. The airport is managed by Aena, Spain's state airport operator.
