Düsseldorf Airport is the largest airport serving the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, Germany's most populous conurbation. Located in the Lohausen district, about 8 km north of the city centre, it is the fourth-busiest airport in Germany and handled 20 million passengers in 2024 across two runways. The airport is operated by Flughafen Düsseldorf GmbH, owned equally by the City of Düsseldorf and Airport Partners GmbH.

Eurowings uses the airport as its primary hub, accounting for over 30% of passenger volume and operating more than 100 destinations from Terminal A. Lufthansa and Star Alliance partners also base significant operations here, while Terminal C handles long-haul and non-Schengen services from carriers including Emirates and Etihad Airways.

The airport is directly connected to the German rail network via two stations — Düsseldorf Airport Terminal and Düsseldorf Airport — linking it to Cologne, Dortmund, and the broader NRW regional network. It opened commercially in 1927, making it one of the older continuously operating airports in Germany.
