Cologne Bonn Airport sits 12 km southeast of Cologne city centre and 24 km northeast of Bonn, placing it centrally between two major cities. The airport opened its civilian terminal in 1957 and serves around 10 million passengers annually across two adjacent terminals. It is one of Germany's few 24-hour airports, a factor that has made it a significant hub for express freight operators.

Eurowings uses CGN as a primary hub, and Ryanair operates a substantial base here, making the airport one of the largest low-cost carrier hubs in continental Europe. Turkish and Spanish leisure destinations dominate the route network, with Antalya and Palma de Mallorca among the busiest destinations.
