Matecaña International Airport guide

Matecaña International Airport sits on the western edge of Pereira, the capital of Risaralda, and serves Colombia's coffee region. The terminal stands on the rim of a ravine, and the airfield has one asphalt runway, 08/26, which is 2,205 m long after an extension in 2014. Elevation is 1,347 m above sea level.

The first official flight landed on 24 July 1947. The city of Pereira owns and manages the terminal building, while the civil aviation authority Aerocivil runs airfield operations, a split Wikipedia describes as unique in Colombia. A 2016 public-private agreement with CSS Construction added a 20-year concession for upgrades, including a new cargo terminal and control tower.

Traffic is mostly domestic. Avianca, LATAM and JetSMART connect Pereira with Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena, and Copa Airlines flies to Panama City, which is the main international link. Domestic travellers made up about 2.5 million of the 2.8 million passengers in 2024. The airport also acts as an alternate for Armenia, Manizales and Cartago, and it handles daily operations from 5:00 am to midnight.
