El Dorado International Airport sits in Bogotá's Fontibón district, about 14 km west of the city center. With over 45 million passengers handled in 2024, it ranks as the busiest airport in Latin America and one of the top 50 busiest airports in the world. The airport also leads Ibero-America in air cargo, processing around 760,000 metric tons annually.

The airport has two parallel runways, each 3,800 metres long, and two passenger terminals connected by a free shuttle. Terminal 1 opened in 2012 and handles the majority of traffic across both domestic and international routes. Terminal 2, the former Puente Aéreo facility, serves a small number of regional domestic carriers. Avianca is the dominant carrier and uses El Dorado as its main hub.

Sitting at 2,548 metres above sea level, El Dorado is one of the highest commercial airports on the continent. The elevation affects aircraft performance — maximum takeoff weights are reduced compared to sea-level operations. Operator OPAIN has an expansion project underway, El Dorado Máximo Desarrollo, targeting 60 million passenger capacity by 2027.
