Daocheng Yading Airport Guide
Daocheng Yading Airport sits in the Haizi Mountain area of Sangdui Township, in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan. At 4,411 metres above sea level it is the highest civilian airport in the world. The thin air at that height is why the single concrete runway, 16/34, is 4,200 metres long and 45 metres wide.
The airport serves visitors heading for the Yading Nature Reserve, about 130 km away, and the high plateau around Daocheng County. Before it opened on 16 September 2013, the trip from Chengdu took about two days by road. The first service, Air China flight 4215 from Chengdu, carried 118 passengers on an Airbus A319.
The terminal covers 8,796 square metres and is shaped like a flying saucer. It was designed for 280,000 passengers a year. Scheduled flights link Daocheng with Chengdu and Chongqing, and the airport handled 121,392 passengers and 1,579 aircraft movements in 2024. Sichuan Airport Group operates it.
