Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport opened on 28 August 1997, replacing the former Dongjiao Airport as Henan province's main air gateway. Henan Airport Group operates the site, known by the ICAO code ZHCC. Two parallel runways serve traffic: a 3,400-metre strip from the original 1997 construction and a 3,600-metre runway added in 2016. Terminal 2, an X-shaped building opened in December 2015, replaced the original terminal, which now sits in reserve.
In 2025 the airport handled 29.2 million passengers and 222,362 aircraft movements, ranking 17th among mainland Chinese airports by passenger volume. It operates as a hub for Cargolux and China Southern Airlines, and as a focus city for Shenzhen Airlines, China West Air, Lucky Air, and Donghai Airlines.
The surrounding Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone became China's first state-level airport-based development area in 2013 and hosts a Foxconn complex assembling iPhones for export. Thirty-three cargo airlines connect the zone to 48 international cities, making the airport a central node in China's air cargo network for high-value electronics manufacturing.
